The west end
Hummersknott, Blackwell and Mowden are among Darlington's most sought-after areas, with large inter-war and post-war detached houses and long, mature gardens. They suit generous composite decks off rear extensions, and hardwood decks in more traditional gardens. West Park has newer, well-kept homes where crisp composite decks fit right in.
North Darlington
Cockerton and Harrowgate Hill have established family homes with good-sized gardens, many with room for a deck at the back door or a sun deck at the far end of the lawn.
Villages south and east
Hurworth and Hurworth Place sit by the Tees with Georgian houses and cottages around the green, and parts of the village are a conservation area. Middleton St George has a mix of older homes and newer developments, and Croft-on-Tees is just across the river.
Villages to the west
Heighington, with its village green, and Piercebridge on the Tees both have period homes and big gardens that look out over open countryside, perfect for a deck with a glass balustrade.
