Level with your doors
Nobody wants to step down a drop from the kitchen with a tray in their hands. A raised deck brings the outside floor up level with the inside, so you just walk out. On bigger slopes we split the deck into two or three levels, with broad steps between, which keeps it in scale with the house and gives you separate spaces for dining and sitting.
Engineered properly
Raised decks need proper structure: concrete footings, posts and beams sized for the height, bracing so nothing sways, and a secure fixing to the house, or a free-standing frame if the wall isn't suitable. Edges with a drop of more than 600mm have a balustrade, and steps have even risers and handrails where needed. Fascia boards hide the frame.
Planning and privacy
Decks more than 30cm above the ground normally need planning permission. We'll discuss the height, position and any screening at the visit, and Darlington Borough Council can confirm what's needed for your home.
Common questions
How high can a deck go?
High enough to suit the garden, built as a proper structure with footings and bracing, and with planning permission where needed. We'll design to your levels.
Can you build round an existing patio and lawn?
Yes. Multi-level decks can step down onto an existing patio or straight onto the lawn.
