Re-board or rebuild
If your frame is sound, level and has joists close enough together, we can strip off the old boards and lay new ones, often composite. If the posts have rotted or the frame has sagged, it's better to rebuild from the ground up. We'll lift a board at the visit and explain honestly what we find.
Tell-tale signs
- Spongy or bouncy boards, or boards that have split
- Soft or crumbling posts and joists
- A deck that's dropped, tilted or pulled away from the wall
- A surface that's always green and slippery
A fresh start
We remove and dispose of the old deck, check the ground and drainage, build a new frame on proper footings and lay new boards with steps, fascias and anything else you'd like. Many people use the chance to make the deck bigger, change its shape or add lighting.
Common questions
Can you replace just a few boards?
Our work is replacing decks and re-boarding sound frames, rather than swapping single boards. Where the deck is generally tired, a proper replacement is better value.
Will new composite boards fit my old frame?
Only if the frame is sound and the joists are close enough together. Often they're not, and the frame needs rebuilding. We'll check.
