Balustrades to suit the house
- Glass: clear views over the garden or the fields beyond, ideal on the edge of villages like Heighington and Hurworth.
- Aluminium: slim, strong and almost maintenance-free.
- Composite or timber spindles: a classic look with a handrail to match.
Any edge with a drop of more than 600mm needs guarding, and we build balustrades to the heights and strengths in Building Regulations.
Steps
We build steps wide and even, in the same boards as the deck, with proper nosings and handrails where needed. A deep step along the front of a deck makes a handy extra seat.
Lighting
Low-voltage LED lights in the step risers, the boards or post caps make a deck safer after dark and lovely in the evening. Cables run inside the frame while it's being built, and the lights work from a transformer on an outdoor socket. Any new mains supply is fitted by a qualified electrician.
Common questions
Do I need a balustrade on a low deck?
Not usually for a low, ground-level deck, but any edge with a drop of more than 600mm needs one. Some people like a balustrade on a lower deck anyway, for children or to define the space.
What lights do you use?
Small low-voltage LED lights designed for decks: riser lights, deck lights and post-cap lights.
